How would you know if you have a blood clot?!

Question:

How would you know if you have a blood clot?

I have been to see 3 different doctors because of the leg pain. One doctor looked at my leg and felt it and did a CBC and a metabolic blood test on me( it came back normal) and told me to take advil for it. My gyno doctor looked at it and said he couldnt see anything either but gave me predisone in case the pain was from inflammation He also said I had a 5 cm ovarian cyst. The other doctor felt my leg, looked at it and said she couldn't feel anything and said it didn't look red or swollen. Could I still have a blood clot? It hurts like heck when I sit down or try to walk. M lower back is also hurting too but the main pain comes from my back part of the upper thigh

Do they treat you at the hospital for it or at home?

Answers:

I had a blood clot in 2004. The blood test called a di-dymers (spelling) test did not show the enzyme that is present when you have a blood clot. The pain was very comparable to what you are describing continued for about 1 1/2 weeks and I asked my doctor what could be done to figure out what was causing this. The doctor sent me for a ultrasound and they found the blood clot.
You really need to get an ultrasound of your leg to really know the truth. You can have a clot with not swelling or redness. That's exactly what I experienced.
