Help - blood sugar, exercise, general health question...?!

Question:

Help - blood sugar, exercise, general health question...?

I have for the past few years noticed myself at times not feeling well. I occasionally get light-headed, dizzy, tired, and just generally don't feel good. For the past month I have been feeling this way and didn't know what was going on but noticed that I started getting more dizzy and tired, or getting an actual headache, after I ate something sweet.

I have started walking about three miles a day and trying to watch my sugar and it hasn't really helped. I don't know what's going on with me but does this sound like something serious? My mother and grandfather both have diabetes (they do not take insulin shots) and my grandfather is hypoglycemic so I'm worried about myself.

Do you have any suggestions for me to improve the way I feel or can anyone help me find out what is going on with my body?

Answers:

Dizzy and light-headed are some symptoms of high/low blood sugar. There are others. Frequent urination, especially overnight or after meals high in carbs or sugar? Very thirsty all the time? Blurred vision?
The bottom line is, the only way to find out is to go to the doctor. They will do a fasting blood test to check the average blood sugar level over the last three months (HBA1C Test). They may also do a sugar tolerance test where they will make you drink a large glass of a very sweet "gator aide" type drink or grape juice. Test your blood before and an hour after to see how your body handles the sugar.
The only way to know for sure is to get that blood work done.

Good luck.
