Can anesthesia affect one's taste/tastebuds?!

Question:

Can anesthesia affect one's taste/tastebuds?

I recently had surgery and I've noticed that most food that has a sweet taste to it tastes a bit off. I was wondering if this could be caused by the anesthesia.

Answers:

It may have some effect for a short while, but anything lasting more than a few days after your procedure is very unlikely. A lot depends on the individual circumstances - type of surgery, length of stay, other medications taken during your recovery, etc., etc.
