No sense of smell at all? what would cause this?

2. I don't do coke
3. I am asking on behalf of my partner, he has never had a sense of smell.


Answers:

Olfactory nerve (cranial nerve no 2 that carries the smell messages to the brain) dysfunction could cause this. It could simply be absent (unlikely) or squashed by a space occupying lession (such as a pituitary gland tumor) causing it not to work properly.

The receptors in his nose could also be damaged or absent, or the part of his brain that processes smells could be damaged or absent.
