Coumadin (warfarin) questions...?!

Question:

Coumadin (warfarin) questions...?

I am 33 and taking Coumadin (warfarin) because I had a pulmonary embolism following a C-section 14 months ago. I was told it was caused by a folic acid deficiency (although I think it had more to do with the 2 days before the c-section I had 2 failed inductions, and was told to stay in bed all day, rather than walk around to try and increase labor), and I was told I will have to be on it for the rest of my life. My questions are... (the first 2 questions are because the nurse at work told me that I should only be on short-term therapy and that it is rat poison)
Is lifelong therapy normal?
Is Coumadin really rat poison?
And is anyone else on Coumadin experiencing hair loss, or how common is this side effect?

Answers:

Whether you will be on it for life will depend on several factors, your doctor will do tests later in order to be able to advice you on that.

It isn't unusual to have to take it for life.

Yes it is used as an ingredient in rat poison....thins the rats blood so much that they bleed to death.

Yes some people do experience a little hair loss, don't worry you won't go bald and the hair should grow back.

Hope this is of help
Good luck
