Lately everytime a get up after sitting it feels like I am about to faint. Why?!

Question:

Lately everytime a get up after sitting it feels like I am about to faint. Why?

After I sit for a while and I get up, the corners of my eyes start to black in and I feel really dizzy. I don't know why this is happening. It only really happened today, but I have felt this before. Today it just happened a lot. It was hot in my house thats the only thing I can come up with, but we have the air on now and it still happened. Any explanations.

P.S. The feeling usually will go away after like 10 feet of walking and if it doesn't I would just sit down and it would go away.

Answers:

It could be nothing...it could just be stasis hypertension (see that wikipedia article that was mentioned above)...or it could be related to an underlying blood pressure problem.

Getting overheated could exacerbate the problem as well...blood is being circulated away from the center of your body when you're hot, which alone can cause dizziness. It will take a while for your body to cool off and settle back to normal - longer than it will take your room to cool off.

Don't panic...but if it keeps happening, do go have it checked out just to make sure there's no underlying problem.

No, it is not necessarily a normal thing...and if it happens every single time you stand up, Kelida122, you'd do well to get a second opinion. You may have low blood pressure like me, which makes this happen more often...but you shouldn't be almost blacking out every time you stand up.

And if it is just normal, try doing a leg stretch before getting up, to get your circulation more normalized before you get up.
