What can we do to put this to an end?
We are parents of an 18 year old son who is addicted to Oxycontin. We have have tried Suboxone and rehab, but he continues stealing, lying and using constantly. He is also spending his paycheck and our money on lottery tickets and putting excessive miles on our car (sometimes over 50/day). He refuses to cooperate and yells and leaves the house when we confront him.
Answers:
Unfortunately at this point in his addiction the only thing left for you to do is cut him off completely. No more access to the car, hide all your money from him and if you have to kick him out of the house. Don't blame yourselves as this is not in anyway your fault. Right now you just have to let him hit bottom so that he is ready to accept help. That is the only way he will get clean. Good luck.
