My friend is refusing to talk to anyone, she prefers to stay in her room a all day. any ideas??

She is a student, but a month now she dropped out of school, quit working, and all she does is locked up her room. She refuses to see any doctors, even does not want to talk to her parents. When ask what we can do she just wants to be alone. Right now everyone is concerned and tryin to make sure she won't hurt herself. However this seems to make things worse, since she is very upset when people checkin on her every 5 minutes to make sure she is fine. She seems very comfortable talkin on messenger/phone but very tense when people come to see her in person. We tried to arrange and bring psycologist to talk to her, but she refused to come out of her room. We do not know what else to do, she insists she'll be fine if everyone leaves her completely alone for a week or so... I searched internet to find out if there are some syndrome/depression state that has similar sypmtoms and how to deal with it, but nothin definite cam out. If anyone knows any websites, please help!!!

My psychBA from '02 makes me think Depression or sudden fear of people/being outside of comfortable environments (think Monk's brother, if you've seen the show). I recommend a phonescreen with a trained psychologist/psychiatrist.
