Becoming introverted due to chronic pain??!

Question:

Becoming introverted due to chronic pain??

Ever since I developed chronic pain, I've shyed away from things I use to love...such as playing soccer on a team, mountain biking with my buds and stuff. I also used to perform musically in front of people and loved it. Now I'm just in pain all the time, and I don't like doing this stuff cause I don't quite have the energy and charisma I used to possess. I know I'm still outgoing and competitive by nature, so you can see I'm a very conflicted person right now. I've basically let this pain dictate and rule my life, and it sucks. Any ideas on what I can do?

here's my picture...that's another thing, I don't look unhealthy, so it's hard explaining to people I can't do what I used to do. It makes me depressed.

luisa...you are VERY correct. Whenever I do get even just a little excercise I tend to feel better. Thanks for that reminder!

Answers:

That's very normal. As the other posters said you should still get some exercise everyday. I find working in water to be easier on my body and less stressful on my joints.

Have you considered becoming involved in a group like Toastmasters? They help people build skills for public speaking, communication, and leadership. It could be an outlet for you to use different skills from the ones your chronic pain has taken from your life. When one door is closed another one opens.
