The short answer is make sure you keep up with good sleep hygiene (basically do nothing but sleeping or intimacy in bed). Some of the big things to avoid are watching television or studying in bed. This confuses your body. Also, if you're not able to fall asleep for about half an hour, get up and do something out of bed to make yourself tired, rather than just lay and stare at the ceiling. Lastly, don't watch the clock. If you have to, turn your alarm clock around so you can't see the time. If that doesn't work, try some warm milk or other home remedies. Drugs should be the absolute last resort.
