I was diagnosed with Alopecia Areata & my hair came back white... is it norm!

I was diagnosed with Alopecia Areata & my hair came back white... is it normal to lose hair pigment?

My cousin has had this condition and yes sometimes the hair does come back white, and very fine but after about a year it started getting dark and it eventually came in black (her natural color). In her case, I think the theory of nasal allergies combined with high stress levels may have contributed to cause her Alopecia Areata.
