Question:
How do I keep my father from smoking?
He is 45 and he has been smoking on and off for about 20 years. I really care about him and i try everything to help him stop. I try to tell him Ill take his cigarutes away, then he says ok..ill stop. But he might stop for a day then go right back to it again. I just want to know how i would be able to make him stop smoking.

Jay i went through the exact same thing with my Dad, and i went as far as asking him for a gift for a special birth day i had coming up , i asked for his last cigarette and lighter, he wasn't to amused but did it , and he started smoking again, even sneaking..LOL Now he is sick with heart failure emphysema and all kinds of complications due to this , his quality of life is awful , he can't walk for long he has shortness of breath, and i realized he quit but when he nearly died in the hospital... Tell him how much you love him , that you are concerned with his health, and maybe print him out some hard facts to read about what smoking does long term.. But then , like any addict , leave him be, he has to want it himself.. He is addicted to the nicotine, and it's very hard , only He can do it.. Be positive, and remind him you would like him around for a Long time to come. But basically that;s all you can do.. here's some sites that may help.. Good luck!
