I have a pacemaker. Would this stop me from becoming a flight attendant?!

Question:

I have a pacemaker. Would this stop me from becoming a flight attendant?

Answers:

Well, more than likely it would. Not necessarily the pacemaker, but whatever medical condition you have that requires it would probably disqualify you. Each airline has their own standards for physical fitness requirements, so you wouldn't know for sure until you applied and took the exam. But I would be prepared to hear that you were rejected. Flight attendants have some pretty demanding jobs on the aircraft, and are expected to be able to assist passengers without the potential to become incapacitated themselves. It wouldn't do for you to have a problem at altitude, as it would require an emergency landing at the nearest available airport. Sorry, but I think you might want to look into other career options.
