Should I get a second opinion with ENT?

My 2 year old has been battling ear infections for 9 months...in fact, he has had 8 that I can count. On antibiotics most of the duration and just went to see an ENT. He took one look and said he need tubes and his adenoids out. I had a feeling this might happen, being that my oldest has never had an ear infection and the youngest has had so many. I've scheduled the operation but my mom has insisted I get a second opinion with another ENT. She claims I was misdiagnosed with needing tonsils & adenoids out but I was much older...which never happened. I know this is a common surgery and very quick...only 20 minutes. I'm afraid of him suffering hearing loss and a speech delay, if I don't do it. However, it is a surgery so would this warrant a second opinion? His pediatrician never disagreed with my choice to see an ENT and have the surgery.

Get a second opinion. It will keep peace in the family, erase all questions or doubts from everyone including you. You are right to not put off the surgery. My son had the same problem. The tubes will drain off the liquid that congregates behind the ear drum. If left there, this liquid will dry and harden not allowing the ear drum to vibrate. This means loss of hearing and could lead to being deaf.

My loss of hearing is from the military and I do not wish it on anyone especially a young child with a full life ahead of them.
