Even among people with experience, we'll all have different stories.
I was on 6mg a day when the state clinic I went to changed doctors. The new doc assumed that because I was financially poor and on several meds that I must be selling the pills, and after meeting me for all of ten minutes said he was going to stop ALL my meds until he decided what I needed!
At that point what I needed was a real doctor! (I've never sold medicine in my life, it never even occurred to me. I had been going to that clinic for at least 20 years by then, and anyone of the staff who had worked there would've vouched for me as entirely trustworthy.) The system didn't allow me to change doctors, but I know enough about my own conditions to know that you don't change more than one med at a time, and you should titrate down rather than stop immediately. So, that's what I did. At that time we were given three months' supply at a time and fortunately I did have some backups.
I started looking for another clinic, and found a med school whose interns could see me every two months. I slowly cut down the amount of xanax, and then tried cutting back on the others. When at one point I realized that I was unrealistically depressed, I went back up on the last med I'd cut back on.
Eventually, I found a wonderful doctor who accepted Medicare -and who trusted me to understand my experiences with my (rather complex) medical history. We only change a prescription if they aren't working, and slowly, one at a time until we find whatever is most effective.
So that's my story---and it really won't help you much, I'm afraid. Everyone has different reactions to various combinations of medicine, and even within ourselves that can change over time
If you are getting along well with the lower doses, that's good, but PLEASE don't make changes without your doctor's knowing about it?
Best wishes!
