White clumps in the back of your throat? tonsils?!

Question:

White clumps in the back of your throat? tonsils?

I get these white clumps on my tonsils regularly for about 5 years now. Does anyone know why I get these? I heard once that it was because of dehydration...is that true?

Answers:

I get those too. If you take a Q-Tip or long pointy thing (I use the long end of a parting comb) to gently nudge it out, you can reduce the bad breath and the choking sensation. They smell really bad. Anyway, I asked a doctor about them and he said it food bits get stuck in the scars in my tonsils from strep. Plaque forms around the food and wallah, you get those nasty clumps. They're not harmful, just annoying.

The best prevention I've found is gargling mouthwash. It seems to help clean out the food bits.

I've never heard of this being caused by dehydration, but drinking water enough water can never hurt.
