Help! I need to get into a regular sleep pattern!?!

Question:

Help! I need to get into a regular sleep pattern!?

Over the past couple months I've been going to sleep around 5am (after taking over the counter sleeping pills) and waking up at 3pm. I feel like my day is shot after waking up, but I can't seem to break this cycle. I've tried taking sleeping pills earlier and getting in bed, but I still I can't fall asleep earlier. I just lay in bed until 5am. The other day, I had to wake up early, so I was tired all day, but I resisted the urge to take a nap in hopes that I would be able to sleep that night, but I STILL couldn't fall asleep until 5am even though I felt run down all day. Any suggestions on how to regain a normal sleep pattern? I'm willing to try anything at this point!

Answers:

Make a special effort to get ready - Warm bath, warm milk, no tv, phone or other distractions. Take some time to write down and think about your worries from your day. Go over how you'll help to solve your problems tomorrow, and then once you've got it sorted, pop off the light and all noises, put on some comfy jarmies, and try to get some sleep. Even a cuddly toy might help! Don't keep looking at the time - it'll make you worry about you not getting asleep. Just try not to think about anything thats worrying you, especially not getting enough sleep. Try this for a few days - and if not - give your doctor a visit. Let him know whats up and he may be able to help.
