Does a long term abuse of opiates(pain pills) lower or even kill a sexual desire!

Question:

Does a long term abuse of opiates(pain pills) lower or even kill a sexual desire and erections?

I've been 1 year clean of any use of opiates.I used to take approx. 50-100 tablets of Vicodin,Percocet,etc... a day for a few years.I love my wife and feel emotionally very close and I am very touchy-feely person, but we weren't physically close for a long, long time.More than a year...I just do not have a desire or ability anymore...Is my drug use responsible?Has this happened to anybody else?Thank you...

Answers:

Yes. I would say the drug is responsible. A lot of people I know who are taking Narcotics for recreation, or for medical reasons have lost emotion, and sexual desire. It is normal. That is why they say percocets and oxycontins are zombie pills, you can get an erection, but the sexual desire is gone. Along with emotions, and showing of emotion. It has happened to many people I know...the cure is to do something extremely different in the bedroom, spice it up, take a viagra, have some wine, try some of those over the counter sexual enhancers...etc. Once you get back into the flow, you will be fine and normal. I promise you.

Also, if you are taking a maintenance drug like suboxone, or methadone, it will definately be causing the loss of sexual desire. If you are clean, and have not taken any maintenance pills, which is great, then you just have to force your way back into the sexual scene, and you'll be fine. I promise you.
