Dry mouth - dehydration because I work alot inside my house?!

Question:

Dry mouth - dehydration because I work alot inside my house?

I'm a computer programmer and do most of my work in my house. I'm starting to wonder if this is causing dehydration in my mouth. Is this possible or unlikely? Like I mentioned in another post, towards the back of my tongue there's a white layer on my tongue that kind of looks like it dried up or something. Maybe some sort of bacteria is causing dry mouth? I also noticed my mouth produces alot of phlegm after drinking milk or orange juice. I'm 6'4 200 pounds and in great shape other than this problem. Any ideas? Maybe I'm just not getting enough fresh air?

Answers:

Dehydration can cause this condition. The most common cause is smoking and/or drinking too much, but it could also be thrush. Some people also have this condition for no apparent reason, and it can be cleared up by simply brushing your tongue when you brush your teeth. If smoking and/or drinking aren't the problem, then try drinking lots of water and brushing your tongue. If that doesn't clear it up in a few weeks, see your doctor. If it is thrush, it is easily cleared up with prescription lozenges.
