What is more effective Metoprolol or Toprol-XL?!

What is more effective Metoprolol or Toprol-XL?
I have been taking Metoprolol 50MG twice a day for years now. So far this was the medication that always somehow worked for me. Now my family doctor advised taking Toprol-XL 100MG once a day. But my insurance wasn't covering it. Now through Prescripton For Assistance Program I finally got Toprol-XL
I was just wondering , is Toprol-XL 100 mg going to be enough for the whole day period and is it more effective than Metoprolol.
Would appreciate any suggestions in this matter.

They're basically the same thing. Toprol-XL is extended release where as Metoprolol isn't. So, when you take 100mg of Toprol-XL your body slowly lets the medication be released throughout the day. When you take Meotoprolol, you're taking 50mg at one time that are released quickly, and then getting another 50mg later in the day that are released quickly as well. You're getting the same dose, it's just that you don't have to take it as often with the Toprol as you do with the Metoprolol. Hope this helps!
