What undiagnosed medical problem would cause a dentist to tell a patient to see !
Question:
What undiagnosed medical problem would cause a dentist to tell a patient to see a physician first?
The dentist declined to perform a root canal until the generally healthy 60 year old patient had seen a specialist in internal medicine. Is this as ominous as it appears?
Answers:
Really bad gum disease can be related to heart disease because it causes an inflammatory process in the arteries. That could be an issue. also, if you had a heart murmur, they often require you to take antibiotics before any dental procedure, to prevent infections to a heart valve.
I imagine if the dentist had seen anything specific in the mouth or gums, or on the tongue, he/she would have said something.
