The question is what one have to do to to work on the problem besides taking the prescribtion given, and if it so happens the prescribtion given still persists.

I think that it depends on the issue, how much you're willing to work on your problem, and, of course....time. Going to a psychatrist won't solve your problem or issue in a relatively short amount of time( if it does, I guess you didn't have much of a problem, eh?)--many people see a psychatrist for several months to a year or more before making headway with their problems. But like I said, that largely depends on you.
