Lexapro/ Ativan (Lorazepam)?!

Question:

Lexapro/ Ativan (Lorazepam)?

My doctor has just put me on two new medications, Lexapro and Ativan.

I am not someone who likes to take any kind of medicine, even things like tylenol, so my body is not real accoustomed to medication. This being said, I've had a few side effects that I was wondering about.

With the Ativan, which I was perscribed to help me sleep, relax my muscles, and deal with anxiety, I'm not having any issues. I take it right before bed.

When I wake up, I take the Lexapro. This morning, I woke up at six a.m., took my dose, and fell back asleep until 10! I am not a late sleeper by habit. When I did get up, my arms and back felt lame, which I assumed was from the muscle relaxant in the ativan. But the worst of all was that I was shaking. My gross motor skills seemed fine, but my fine motor skills were shaky and unsteady.

I was wondering if these are normal symptoms, or if I should call my doctor. The shaking subsided within a few hours. Thanks!

Answers:

Ativan is a form of valium. I would expect you to feel lathargic.
If it cuases you to be unsteady on your feet, that should go away as you wake up. The main side effect of ativan is short term memory loss.

Either way, I'd talk to him about it.
