How come drinking alcahol makes all my muscles hurt at first?!

Question:

How come drinking alcahol makes all my muscles hurt at first?

Anyone else experience this? I rarely drink but when I do it's always that way. I'm just curious as to why.

Answers:

The same thing happens to me, but only when I drink wine. I personally think it has to do with alcohol's affect on the cerebral cortex in the brain. This part of the brain controls sensation, movement, and touch. Since alcohol is a depressant, it probably causes the brain to misinterpret normal muscle cell impulses as painful. This is only my theory, as I have never found an answer as to why.

It may also have to do with the liver's ability to break down waste products. When you consume alcohol, the liver is busy processing it, so more waste products can pass into the blood stream than normal. (Waste products cause muscle aches, itching, and nausea...) This would explain why muscle aches can occur at first. Then, as you consume more alcohol, your body is able to adapt and the liver can process and clean more blood, so the waste products are removed. ?? I really don't know a correct answer!!
