Sleep question?!

Question:

Sleep question?

Hey my mother always told me that night time sleep is the most important kind you can get. She told me this because i always go to bed around 3 am. I told her it does not matter as long as i get ENOUGH sleep. I get 8 hours sometimes more. So who is right on this one? Does it matter what time you sleep as long as it is consistant and enough, or is sleep at night the best and most important?

Answers:

Hi Sam,

Honestly i was the same thing for a long time, i would wake up till 4 or even 5 am then get my 8 hours, and i thought nothing of it but then i had a job and started to sleep earlier to get those 8 hours. I can't explain it that well but really the quality of sleep and how much REM time we have (Rapid eye movement) that is the deepest time we sleep and the body is well rested, is what's important. But somehow, a person reaches that stage earlier on at night when there is no direct or indirect light and the noise level is very low. All these factors affect the quality of yr sleep.

Now that i am a mum, i know that she was right, coz many times i would stay awake not just nights but for days and if i get a couple of hours that would be enough.

So basically this stage in yr life is normal and as long as u get well rested it will be alright.

Lastly, this is actually a condition and it is called Delayed Sleep Phase Syndrome aka night owlism. Yous can read more about it here:

Sleep tight, hope i helped.
