Trouble sleeping last night?

Last night I had a hard time trying to sleep and I kept tossing and turning. I did drink a coffee drink yesterday. Could that be the problem? or maybe just too much on my mind? I am 17.


Answers:

If it is only yesterday, probably coffee is a culprit, though tea/coffee have never bothered me. If it is occasionally, say once in a month or two, don't bother again, everyone goes through such cycles. But if it is regular then you have insomnia and must consult a doctor.

In the meantime try this:

Take your dinner at least 3 hours earlier and go to bed with light stomach and in loose clothes. Put out lights and sound.

Lie on your back with hands and legs spread out in comfortable position. You should adjust them according to the comfort level. Let your feet drop to their sides and palms face upwards. In Yoga this position is named "Shav'asan" i.e. the position of a dead body.

Close eyes and take slow deep breath, hold for just a few seconds and exale slowly but completely. Repeat this cycle 10 times. During this period you should think of your deity if you are a religeous person.

Otherwise, think of pleasurable things, like wandering in your favourite places, thinking of a good play or movie you have liked or some happy occasion. However, banish the thoughts of sex, office, home, children's, spouse's problem because such thoughts excite you and keep you awake. Don't solve mathematical problems unless maths itself is a problem for you because in that case you won't think of it anyway.
