Do scales change readings depending on surfaces?!

Question:

Do scales change readings depending on surfaces?

In my bathroom (tile) I weigh 150, in my room (carpet) I weigh more, and in my home office (hardwood) I weigh less. What is my real weight? What is the best surface for accurate readings?

Answers:

I've always heard the you should be on a hard surface (tile, wood, whatever). Carpet gives to much "give" or something, and will give a false reading.
