Concussions and loss of taste?!

Question:

Concussions and loss of taste?

I had a concussion about 4 or 5 months ago, and the doctors said it wasn't serious. But, recently I haven't been able to taste, and this problem has persisted for almost a month. So, I was wondering if my concussion had something to do with this or if something else is causing it. And if the concussion is not the case could you explain what some of cause could be?

Answers:

4-5 months is kind of a long time to finally be experiencing negative effects of a concussion. A huge percentage of what you taste is associated with what you smell, so if you are having trouble smelling that could be your problem. Taste itself is actually conducted by 3 different cranial nerves so absolute loss of taste is pretty rare, unless you ate something that just killed your tongue. If that were the case you should regain your taste over time. If it's a problem with your sense of smell it to should come back over time. If it continues to persist or if you start having headaches definately go see a doctor.
