Black, tarry poo that's extremely difficult to pass?!
Question:
Black, tarry poo that's extremely difficult to pass?
*Warning: this question is somewhat nasty.
I've recently eaten a lot of children's chewable vitamins (Flintstones), like 5-10 a day for a few days. I've heard that iron supplements can turn your stool black. For the past 3 days, I've had thick, tarry black stool that's extremely difficult to pass and somewhat painful. It clogged up my intestines and after an effort that I would rather have avoided, I finally passed it all today. I couldn't poop it out normally; I had to try to pass it, take some toilet paper, and actually go in down there and scoop out lumps at a time. Did the vitamins do this, or do I have a more serious problem? I've taken a bunch of vitamins before and not had this problem, but I can't think of anything else that could have caused this.
