What causes a really low heart-rate?

My friends and I went to the gym and were running on treadmills when one of my friends told me to see what my heartrate was by grabbing the bars. I was like wow thats pretty sweet. 3 or so minutes later when I'm really winded my heartrate was only 60 something. My friends were all over 100 and they were like wtf are u dead? Is this a bad thing? I don't run a lot either. That was probably the first time I ran in 5 or 6 months.

If you're blasting away in a workout and your heart rate is only 60 I rather doubt that's normal.

I'm in fantastic shape and it's the "resting" heart rate that should be low. Mine is about 48.

When I workout my target heart rate is 130 and I can get there quite easily. Keeping it there for @ least 30 minutes and usually 40+.

I suffer from migraines and take a medication that causes the blood vessels to relax. It's been my observation that when I have the migraine, take the medicines, then feel better and decide to workout, that my heart rate won't go above about 80 and it's due to the fact that my blood vessels have expanded, ,due to the medicine.

I'm serious, if I were you I'd get a Sports Medicine Doctor's opinion.

The fact about being in shape and having a low heart rate is that one's heart recovers quickly after stopping exercising. I've been doing advanced aerobics since 1980.

My heart rate @ rest is 48. It's generally been between 125 - 140 while working out depending on how forcefully I get into it.

What is your heart beat rate when you're resting? Check it just when you awaken @ morning and that is considered your resting heart rate.
