Major problems with constipation?!

Question:

Major problems with constipation?

OK, before I go any further, I don't need any advice on eating more fibre, taking more exercise, or increasing my fluid intake, because I've already done all of these.

I'm on an antidepressant which makes me quite constipated, and the dose was recently increased, making things worse from the bowel point of view. In addition, I've also got a trapped nerve in my back at the minute and I'm on 30/500 co-codamol, which I'm extremely sensitive to and it causes me to be very constipated as well, but I can't stop taking either of these medications at the minute.

I've been using a stimulant laxative (senna) and a stool softener (dulcoease) for the past 3 nights, but I still haven't been able to open my bowels. I'm starting to get some abdo pain and discomfort now from the constipation.

I have some glycerin suppositories, but I was wondering how long I should try with the laxatives before resorting to the glycerin suppositories? Should I wait longer before I use one?

Answers:

the suppositories are sooooooooo much better for you than the others. suppositories shouldn't be the last resort, they should be the first!
