Tramadol and urinary retention?!

Question:

Tramadol and urinary retention?

I take 50 mg of tramadol daily in the morning. The positive side effects are relief of back pain and anxiety. The only negative side effect I get is that I seem to hold urine at night. I get up to pee up to 6 times a night and can only get a little out at a time. This has been going on for a while, and it's not a bladder infection or anything like that. Anyone else have this problem? Is it serious?

Answers:

About 1 to 5% of those who take tramadol will experience increased urinary frequency as a side effect. It may wear off, but there is know whay to know for sure. If you are on it chronically you will probably want to change to something else for pain relief, if you just have it for a short while, then it is up to you wether you think it is still worth using, otherwise you can take 2 exta strength tylenol every four to six hours, but not more than 8 in a day. good luck
