Residual Xanax Withdrawal Problems?!

Question:

Residual Xanax Withdrawal Problems?

I have heard it all, but not like this. This is my 8th week off of Xanax, and it has been difficult but I am doing okay. However, I periodically suffer from the following and I would like to know if anyone has been on this medication and has sufffered as I have. Why would our government sanction such a medication for panic attacks that would do such damage to the human body. The symptoms are:
1. Periodic spikes in Blood Pressure.
2. Can't have salt because it causes my blood pressure to spike.
3. Terrible pain in the top of my head during a Pressure Spike.
4. Can't tolerate heat very well.
5. Body regulating body heat of somewhat off.
6. Took some pain medicine for a cracked rib (fell off of my bike) and my blood pressure went up to 198/100 with a heart beat of 120 for about 20 minutes.
7. Terrible pain under my left breast as if there is gas or air trapped there, but x-ray reveals nothing.
Has anyone experience this? I don't want to go back on this stuff ever again!!

Answers:

Many of those symptoms don't sound like Xanax withdrawal.

Did you experience any of those symptoms before taking Xanax? Often it can cause something called 'rebound anxiety'. meaning that some original symptoms return for a while after discontinuing the drug.

At any rate, talk to the doctor who prescribed Xanax for you about this. Diazepam (Valium) is often given to someone discontinuing Xanax because it remains in the system longer; it basically distracts your body from the Xanax withdrawal. It's the same principle for giving methadone to heroin addicts.

*** Also - many of those symptoms could possibly relate to the lymphatic system, which may or may not have anything to do with Xanax.
