Possible metallic shavings in bagged ice ?!

Question:

Possible metallic shavings in bagged ice ?

The other day, while grocery shopping at Walmart, my mom bought a bag of ice. When we got home, a few of the ice cubes looked kinda blackish/grayish, so they were discarded. But we started noticing after drinking something, there would be weird looking stuff that had settled in the bottom of the cup. It looked like metallic shavings. Could this have been something else? And if they are metallic shavings, can they cause a person symptoms after being ingested? Any help would be highly appreciated.

Answers:

Apparently someones ice machine or crusher was coming apart. Did you save the left overs, if so I would take it to the store manager and inform him. Do not let him keep the evidence though. There is a possibility of metal poisoning, but if you threw out the evidence, then you don't have a leg to stand on. Call your family doctor and ask him the dangers of metallic poisoning. He should ask you to come in for a check up in which he may take some x-rays. I believe you can get liver damage from metal shavings. I would defiantly have it checked out. Better safe than sorry!!
