Bad Headaches?!

Question:

Bad Headaches?

For about 2 years I have been getting bad headaches. (Im 15) in the beginning the doctor said it was allergies and gave me Claritin. Which worked/s great. Then a couple of months later i developed a different kind of of headache. i call them migraines, but its not that bad. Only noise just hurts my head, not light. But sometimes i do have to lay down to sleep to make it go away.

They come in clusters. Like every couple of months i will get a bad headache every couple of days for a week or two, then they go away. i have a lot of small ones to, most likely 5 days out of a week. I have tried to make a headache diary to show my doctor, but I always end of stopping it because I cant figure to put ALL of my headaches or just the bad ones (I get a headache every day or every other day most of the time) I don’t think food triggers it, and it doesn’t have anything to do with my period. What should I do?

Answers:

Keep making a headache diary and put ALL your headaches in it. Not only that you had one, but also what you have been doing and where you have been.
I have a lot of migraine triggers. Some are foods and some are environmental. Sometimes I can eat a small amount of a food trigger and not get a migraine, so don't rule out food until you do some food challenges. For me it was a little easier to do the challenges because I was getting migraine headaches every day for four years until I got it all worked out. Since you go through periods of no headache, you will have to keep a really good diary.
Try *not* taking over the counter pain killers. Sometimes, if you take them a lot, you can get rebound headaches. I don't take pain killers of any kind...ever. They just give me too much trouble.
Consider your environment. I can stand a little bit of fragrance now and then, but if I am exposed for several days in a row, I will get a very bad headache, if not a migraine.
