Is reading in the dark really bad for you?!

Question:

Is reading in the dark really bad for you?

That's what we've always heard, but doesn't straining a muscle make it stronger? If focusing on something with little light doesn't give you stronger vision in the dark then what does?

Answers:

You're not really straining a muscle when reading in the dark.

You're elders always cautioned against reading in the dark because it is hard for THEM to do it. They have neglected their eyesight and health, and now they are having a hard time with night vision.

Go ahead and do it. Your way of thinking is correct. If you exercise the retinal cells to read in low light, they will remain good at doing so. Make sure you get antioxidant vitamins form good foods (beta-carotene).
