Question:

Why is it that sunburns don't show until nighttime?

Answers:

You bring up a good question. Why is it that you don't notice sunburns until nighttime? Often times you go out to the beach, have a good time, feel fine, then later on that evening you notice redness and inflammation and pain from sunburn. To answer your question, it is because even after we leave the exposure to sun, our body continues to burn/absorb radiation from the sun for somewhere in the ballpark of seven hours after exposure. Although you might feel fine when you leave the beach, you skin continues to burn, and by the time night comes around, the burn is complete, and it has reached deep enough into your skin, that you are feeling the pain associated with it, and notice the redness. Wear sunscreen religiously, and re-apply it several times a day if necessary. Sunburn is a serious condition that could increase your risk for skin cancer greatly. Please be careful.
