Barium swallow- - Serious only please!!!?

i am going to have a barium swallow done tomorrow morning.. i am not quite sure what i am getting into. But i was wondering if anyone knows how long it takes?

I've had several of these tests. I do better drinking the Barium through a straw, as it doesn't coat your mouth and the taste and texture are not as icky. It depends on what they are looking for as to how long the test will take. If your entire esophagus and stomach are involved, it will be about a half hour. They may place you on a tilt table and watch the barium as it proceeds down your esophagus. Make sure that you empty your bowel afterwards so that the barium passes through your system completely. It can firm up and cause constipation if it is not eliminated. Good luck on your test. Ask for the straw!!
