My hemoglobin level is dangerously high due to a lung infection a nurse told me !

Question:

My hemoglobin level is dangerously high due to a lung infection a nurse told me at the hospital what can i do?

Answers:

It is unusual for haemoglobin to rise in an infection; usually the body sequestres iron in an infection so that it is not available to the infecting microorganism. This generally causes a decrease in haemoglobin Are you sure the raised levels are due to lung infection (it may be that the infection is due to raised iron).

To reduce haemoglobin levels, the usual treatment is bleeding. (The ancient use of leeches actually had some merit for some conditions - like haemochromotosis - raised iron levels).

I hope this helps, and wish you all the best.
