Why can;t you have a beer or glass or wine when taking Ambien?!

Question:

Why can;t you have a beer or glass or wine when taking Ambien?

Having a beer or a glass or wine before taking my Ambien on the way to bed seems to help me sleep better. Just checked out of Mayo Clinic for sleep disorder, but did not think to ask the question.. Does it make the Ambie work less? I am suffer from insomia of which i was told there was no cure. Can anyone out there help me. I've been up since 1 a.m., but usually sleep tl 2---going to bed at 9 (central time). I've been so depressed since he told me there was no cure for it and that I'd be on meds the rest of my life. The trouble is, I've gone through the gambit of meds for the last sixteen years when I was first diagnosed with this.. Anyone out there that can give me some help, I would greatly appreaciate it.

Answers:

Ambien is a seditive formulated to assist in inducing sleep. Alcohol intensifies this mechanism of action which can result in extreme sedation, inability to concentrate/blackouts, decreased respirations, lucid dreams(just to name a few). Not to mention, the two combined can cause "sluggishness" for a couple of days.
