Has anyone ever gone through a drug alchol intervention?
the man i love is an addict. he binge drinks until he is completely stupified, then looks for crack. he drinks weekly, smokes about 2 months apart. i am at my wits end. when he sobers up, of course he promises to get help. well, if you know the story, there is no need to keep going. i found this website, and feel it is my last attempt. would like to hear from anyone that may have some intelligant imput.

Go to Alanon, no, RUN to alanon. It's a program, associated with AA for friends, and loved ones. There you will not learn how to stop them. You will learn what you really need to know, how to handle it. You cannot stop him, I promise. You cannot make him well. You might want to think about why you stay??? I know, I know "love". Do you love you? Yes? Good you need to. I don't know if you believe in God or not, but regardless, get your head around this prayer: God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; the courage to change the things I can; and the wisdom to know the difference...you cannot change others, only yourself. I can't tell you exactly what to do, noone has the right to do that, not really. You will do what you think is best no matter what. Unfortunately, the love you feel for him will distort thought. I know that's harsh, but it happens to me too. I am the daughter of an alcoholic, an ex-wife of two alcoholics, and I am a recovering addict. Please try alanon. They won't, if they are doing what they need to do for themselves, tell you what to do. They WILL listen, share, and care about you unconditionally. So go see these women, (mostly), who can give you so much. As they give to you, they receive even more, and they know it. So I guess you could say that by going there, you are helping them. There is a meeting on-line. For live meetings you should be able to find their phone number in the book. If not find AA and ask them.
