Brother vomited a massive amount of blood, doctors said everything is ok, what s!

Question:

Brother vomited a massive amount of blood, doctors said everything is ok, what should we do?

He was leaving the bar last night and felt a little lightheaded and woozy. He has a drinking problem but never gets wasted. He started stumbling, collapsed and vomited a MASSIVE amount of blood. (12 oz. at least).

He was "out of it" so 911 was called, he was taken to the hospital and kept over night. His stool was positive for blood but his endoscopy, blood pressure, count and panel were all normal- other than feeling like crap, everything was OK.

He has an old sports injury that has recently flared up. His doctor had prescribed ibuprofen for it and he was taking more than the prescribed dose to deal with the pain. The doctor gave some vague reason why the ibuprofen caused him to vomit blood and the amount was due to the blood thinning side-effect of the meds. I haven't seen anything online where people just vomit blood without having and ulcer or something.

I am worried the doctors missed something...does anyone have any ideas?

Answers:

Listen, take your brother to a different doctor in a differerent hospital. That doctor is wrong. Besides, it's better to be safe than sorry.

Vomiting blood can be (not necessarily) a lung/resoiratory issue that needs to be addressed. It can also indicate ulcers in the stomach or worse (God forbid).

That emergency room doctor probably just chucked it up to "another drunk who over did it" and dismissed your brother.

If you care about him, you'll get him to a regular doctor for extensive tests just to be sure.
