Question:

He's quite small for his age. His pediatrician told him last year to try and stretch his bladder by holding in his urine to some extent during the day. Not working and I am concerned about the ill effects of Holding it in. Help?

Answers:

I think you need to hear another doctor's opinion. There is no reason to stretch the bladder if he is having a spasm that causes him to go. You can cut off the fluids at 7 PM, have him go to the bathroom right before bed, and have him wear protective garments so the whole bed doesn't get wet. It may take him longer to develop the nerve response to not pee. It is great that you don't get onto him or stress him out about it. Just to ease your mind, have him examined by a urologist in case there is an abnormality like something he was born with that could be repaired. Best of luck to you and yours!!
