Is it true, that you cannot give blood, if you have ever been anemic ?!

Question:

Is it true, that you cannot give blood, if you have ever been anemic ?

Answers:

Anemia is a condition in which you have a low amount of red blood cells.

If you already have a low amount of blood, they will not let you donate, because you do not want to further lower your blood count, which of course would be dangerous. Your red blood cells are what carries oxygen to all your body's cells, and without them, you could die.

However, if you were anemic at one point, and are not now, its probably okay to donate, but I would check with your doctor first. When you donate blood, beforehand they will do a fingerprick and test your blood to make sure you have enough red blood cells. If its high enough for them, its probably okay, but again, I'd ask your doctor first.

I hope this makes sense. If not, feel free to message me/email me with further questions.
