Why am I having such a hard time eating?!

Question:

Why am I having such a hard time eating?

I am really struggling right now with eating. I am 20 years old, 5'4" and have never in my life weighed more that 98lbs. Right now I weigh about 93lbs. I have been under some stress lately- my husbands in Iraq, my mother is very ill, etc. I am having a hard time eating. It's been almost a week now and I can only seem to bring myself to eat 1 thing a day and I have to literally force myself. I have a constant burning in my tummy just below my ribcage. I do not feel hungry. If I eat I feel like I need to throw up. I am keeping myself hydrated and I can drink plenty of fluids but it seems to be food that is causing the issue. I am considering going to see a doctor about this issue. I do not have an eating disorder. I am not anorexic. I think it's just stress but I am getting concerned. I hate being skinny and the tummy problems are just going to cause me to lose more weight which I really DO NOT need to lose not even another pound. SOMEONE HELP!

Answers:

It's totally normal for your body to try to reject you from eating because of the amount of stress you are under. So the only way to help the problem is to address the stress and find out why you are having such a hard time letting go of it. I think from your writing that you suffer a lot of anxiety and worry yourself too much over things you have no control over. When you see the doctor, ask he or she will prescribe you a medication that will help with your anxiety, not an anti-depressant. Be sure the doctor is clear on this issue.
