Is it normal for sugar to make you pass out?!

Question:

Is it normal for sugar to make you pass out?

I have asked my doctor about this. He said that your body has to work harder to digest and burn carbs and sugar, which makes us tired, or sleepy.

Well when I was a kid, sugar hyped me up, as it does most people. When I eat a candy bar now, I have to lay down, because I get so sleepy, I can't keep my eyes open, I like pass out as soon as I lay down, and sleep for an hour or so. I don't think this is normal, but my doctor told me not to worry.

Answers:

You might want to get checked by a specialist not a GP for reactive hypoglycemia. This is a predecessor to diabetes and doesn't pick up with just the urine testing. I found this out with an endrocrynologist. It basically is that your body overproduces insuline causing your sugar to lower (mine got as low as 25 and 35) and you feeling like you pass out. You can get a test kit and test 1/2 hour and 1 hour after eating to see this. Then the doctors will listen too you. You would probably get metaphorin to help keep the sugar balanced. No more candy either or high sugar food e.g. carbs. Hope this helps. It took them 1 1/2 years to finally find this in mine.
