It depends on the syrup,some are addictive because of what they do,for example,if you are taking something to open you air passages,it only gives you temporary relief so you feel like you need more then in turn taking to much irritates the membranes causing swelling then causing restricted air passage then again you feel like you need to take more.Others like NYQUIL have a tendency to be used as "downers".Any kind of medications even OTCs' can have addictive side affects,even nasal sprays can cause serious problems and if overused can cause long term damage.Always use in moderation.
