My stepdaughter and Seroquel?!

Question:

My stepdaughter and Seroquel?

My stepdaughter's been diagnosed with depression ..and prescribed lexapro for the depression and seroquel for when she can't go to sleep at night. From what I've read about seroquel, 1) it ain't for kids and 2) it isn't a xanex substitute.....is it me ? Two different psychiatrists are pushing the same drug on her...what's going on ?

Answers:

First off I have first hand experience with this med and kids. My son who is 10 was on this for quite awhile. In the begining when the used to high a dose it caused him to become more violent than he already was. He was on it again not to long ago and it seemed to work a little until they through a bunch of other stuff into the mix and then it really wigged him out. My mother who suffers from these symptons was on this a few months ago only for a few days and she said it was the worst med she had ever been on it caused her to have suicidal thoughts, the shakes, bizarre dreams and so on. Makes me wonder if this is what was happening to my son but because he doesn't have the mentality of a normal 10 year old that he could not articulate what he was feeling. My mom is now back to where she is afraid to be alone and such. We have had nothing but trouble with phsychiatrists. His last one when we told him about some of the things my son was doing he told me he did not want to hear my complaints. I think some docs are pill pushers and don't care what they should and should not give to kids. My sisters pediatrician put her 6 year old daughter on Prozac talk about a harsh med and not even prescribed by a shrink. I would definately get another oppinion on this medicine and if she is old enough that she can tell you everything that she is feeling then you are at least a little better off than what we were putting my son on this med. Don't get me wrong meds are great when you find the right ones but the devistating side affects in the process of finding really stink. The last batch of meds they put my son on made it where all he did was cry and couldn't concentrate at all and he strugled to put simple words together.
My thoughts are with you and this whole process. I hope you find the answers you need.
