Doctors and prescriptions?!

Question:

Doctors and prescriptions?

I'm wondering why two doctors would both prescribe/reccomend Seroquel to help someone sleep when that's not what the drug is for. This question is wondering about incentive. Is there some incentive, some bonus plan, something doctors get if they prescribe one drug over another ? From the drug companies, I mean.

Truly I don't need advice on the sleeping teenager....thank you all. I am just wondering why doctors would prescribe something so complicated when there are so many other items out there that will do...and why two psychiatrists in the same town both came up with the same oddball solution...

Answers:

It's possible that the doctor is getting a kick back, but, if two doctors both recommended the same therapy, there is probably a medical reason for it. . Often times medications that are striclty used as a sleep aid carry a risk of dependency, or could interact with other kinds of medications you may be taking.. I was prescribed a blood pressure medication for nightmares that i was having, and it worked wonderfully. If you are not comfortable with a medication that is prescribed, always ask the doctor as many qusetions as you need to until you are comfortable with it and/or don't take it!
