Dilaudid question?!

Question:

Dilaudid question?

when the dr. gave me a shot of dilaudid he said benadryl would relieve the nausea. is this true? the last time i had a shot of dilaudid they gave me compozine for the sickness. why the change?

Answers:

I find it odd that he would give you Benadryl, (an antihistamine), for nausea, especially nausea caused by a strong narcotic. How odd. I wouldn't of prescribed it. It's great for itching, hives, allergies etc... but I wouldn't think it would help with nausea. Oh, well. The Compazine, which is a phenothiazine derivative, is a much more appropriate choice for nausea associated with narcotic medications. It would zap your nausea ASAP. You'll probably never know why they changed it. The only possible reason I can think of is that phenothiazines can have adverse effects. And Compazine in particular is also used to treat schizophrenia. Maybe they were worried about adverse effects on your psyche. Of course, if you didn't have a bad reaction to it last time, it should of been prescribed again. Unless they were also giving you some drugs that interact negatively with Compazine. Well, that's the best I can come up with as a hypothesis! Hope it is of some help.
